Wind, along with solar power, has led the expansion of renewables, with 80-90 GW installed annually in the 2020s. The International Energy Agency predicts that more than 300 GW will be installed annually in the 2030s, and that 31% of global electricity will be supplied by wind power by 2050. Offshore wind power in particular is expected to expand rapidly in the future. Although Japan has lagged far behind in wind power development, it is surrounded by the sea on all sides and has enormous growth potential. Along with onshore wind power, accelerating the deployment of offshore wind, including floating wind turbines, will be critical to support decarbonization in the power sector.
