Accelerating Decarbonization Towards the 1.5°C Target

The Synthesis Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report points out that global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions need to be cut 45% from 2019 levels by 2030 and 60% by 2035 in order to limit temperature increase to 1.5°C. To achieve the 1.5°C target, Japan must not only significantly increase its current target of reducing GHG emissions by 46% in FY2030 from its FY2013 levels, but it should also urgently take climate action in all sectors immediately.

Renewable Energy Institute conducts research on pathways to decarbonize various sectors, analyzes the challenges, makes policy proposals on how to move forward, and promotes dialogue with stakeholders in order to accelerate climate action.
