Japan has vast potential for solar and wind power generation in many areas across the country. To fully utilize its potential and to ensure stable power supply, it is essential to develop electricity grids that efficiently transmit electricity from power plants to demand areas. Developed nations are aiming to decarbonize the electricity sector by 2035, and measures to strengthen the electricity grid are required urgently. Interregional power grid projects are being planned not only in Europe and the United States, but also in Southeast Asia, East Asia, India, and other regions.
Renewable Energy Institute carries out studies to investigate how interregional connection lines should be developed in Japan with a view to realizing international interconnection lines in the future.
