Renewable Energy Institute hosted "REvision 2025: The Great Decarbonization Competition and Renewable Energy" on Wednesday 5 March.
At this year's REvision, Gauri Singh, Deputy-Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and other global energy experts reported on international trends in renewables at the opening session, including the rapid expansion of solar power, and discussed the challenges of energy transition in light of the complex international situation with the formation of the Trump administration in the United States.
In the afternoon, journalist Hiroko Kuniya moderated the first session, 'Renewable Energy is the Key to Regional Revitalization', and presented case studies such as the geothermal power generation project being promoted nationwide by Shoji Numata, founder of the Gyomu Supermarket and CEO of Machiokoshi Energy, and the offshore wind power project in Ishikari City. They were joined by Keiko Omori, Director-General for Regional Decarbonization Policy, Ministry of the Environment, and Professor Toru Morotomi, Kyoto University, to discuss the role of renewable energy in regional development.
In the second session, 'Offshore Wind Power: Conditions for Acceleration', Russell Cato, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, and Masato Yamada, MHI Vestas Japan, addressed the challenges of integrating the global supply chain in Japan, which is facing supply issues. Tsutomu Yokoyama of NYK Line spoke on strategies for procuring ships, a key part of the infrastructure, and Fumiyo Harada of the Development Bank of Japan looked at how investments can support Japan's growth. At the same time, the policy direction of Japan's offshore wind energy were discussed.
The third session, 'Driving Industrial Decarbonization: Creating a Green Steel Market', discussed strategies for decarbonizing the steel industry, with speakers including Sameen Khan from the Climate Group, which is driving the growing demand for green steel.
