Two years after the introduction of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the largest climate action in the past, its impact is being felt globally, including in Japan. We examined the effects of this policy and the changes it has brought, as well as heard about the U.S. commitment to decarbonization in the years ahead.

Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation at the White House - Kristina Costa is Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation at the White House, where she works chiefly on implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy and climate provisions.
She joined the White House in September 2022 from the State Department, where she was senior advisor to Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.
Costa previously served in the Obama White House as Advisor to the Counselor to the President, working primarily on Climate Action Plan implementation; as legislative assistant for energy and environment to Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer; as a policy advisor to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign; and as the domestic policy writer for the 2020 Democratic Party platform.
She was also a principal at Fenway Strategies and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. She earned her BA from Wellesley College and a master’s degree from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, where she was a McCourt Scholar.
