At COP28, more than 130 countries endorsed the pledge to 'triple the world’s installed renewable energy capacity by 2030', and this target was included in the COP decision. To achieve the emissions reductions required for Japan to meet the 1.5°C target, this tripling must be achieved before 2035, if not by 2030.
Renewable Energy Institute hosted a seminar to discuss global trends with the goal of tripling renewable energy, as well as prospects and challenges for achieving it in Japan. The formulation of the 7th Strategic Energy Plan will begin in early 2024, and a review of the 2030 target and discussion of the 2035 target will take place. The seminar was joined by many participants as their first seminar in the year to discuss the energy transition.
