Adnan Amin is a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center where he works on the Geopolitics of Energy Project. He was elected as the first Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in 2011 where he was responsible until April 2019 for leading the Agency in the implementation of its mandate to promote the adoption and use of renewable energy worldwide.

Mr. Amin has over 25 years experience in international environment and sustainable development policy, as well as in the political, management, and interagency coordination functions of the United Nations (UN). Mr. Amin has held senior positions in the UN, including as Head of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination Secretariat, Director of the New York Office of United Nations Environment Programme, and Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on UN System-wide Coherence. He is currently a member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Group on Sustainable Energy for All.

Mr. Amin graduated from the University of Sussex, where he received a BA (Honours) in Economics and a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies. He has been working in the United Arab Emirates since 2011.
