Renewable Energy Institute released a new Info Pack entitled “Trends in Offshore Wind 2026: Global Developments and Japan's Status.”
Offshore wind power continues to expand globally, with cumulative installed capacity having reached 91.4 GW (IRENA) at the end of 2025. In Japan, the amended Act on Promoting the Utilization of Sea Areas for the Development of Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities came into effect in April 2026 and was renamed the Act on the Development of Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities. The amendment enables offshore wind projects to be developed not only in Japan’s territorial and internal waters, but also in its exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
This Info Pack brings together information on global and Japanese offshore wind developments, drawing on reports from organizations and materials from relevant government ministries and agencies. In addition to covering recent developments, the 2026 edition includes key information on offshore wind, as well as auction and tender results in selected countries and regions.
Renewable Energy Institute will continue to update the Info Pack with the latest statistics and developments in Japan and around the world.
