Renewable Energy Institute hosted a side event on 22 October at the occasion of the Korea International Renewable Energy Conference, KIREC Seoul 2019 that took place from 23 to 25 October 2019. Renewables have become the cheapest energy sources in most countries. However, according to Bloomberg NEF, here in East Asia, especially in S. Korea and Japan, renewables remain as high cost energy sources and struggle to be integrated into the electricity market, and fossil fuel dominant market trend still continues. This side event highlighted current energy policies in East Asia and discussed key elements for East Asian countries to realize high integration of RES.

About (K)IREC
-
The International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC) is a high-level political conference series hosted by a national government every two years. It provides a forum for policy and decision makers to exchange on renewable energy national and regional developments. KIREC is the first IREC to have a dedicated track on cities given the central roles cities play in renewable energy uptake and their importance in implementing national policies. The IREC consists of high-level plenary sessions, interactive parallel sessions and plenty of time to network and learn.
