Japan’s policies and regulatory frameworks surrounding offshore wind power are at a turning point. While reforms to the auction system and the expansion of designated development areas are underway, challenges such as rising costs and supply chain constraints remain unresolved.
The speakers gatherd onsite to share the latest international trends and discuss the policy and regulatory design needed to achieve sustained expansion of offshore wind deployment. In the panel discussion, domestic stakeholders joined the first-session speakers to examine the current state and future direction of Japan’s offshore wind policy. In addition, a new study by Renewable Energy Institute and Aegir Insights analyzes the cost gap in bottom-fixed offshore wind between Japan and Europe, identified its key drivers, and highlights the potential for cost reductions toward 2040.
