Renewable Energy Institute has recently collaborated with experts in Europe on two studies commissioned by the European Commission on offshore wind; Technical Standards and Certification of Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) and Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP).
The studies highlight the challenges Japan faces in comparison with European experience and suggest how the country could benefit from EU best practice. The FOW report reveals the importance of reviewing procedures related to technical standards and bringing them in line with international standards. The MSP report draws attention to the importance of formulating integrated spatial plans that encompass diverse uses of the ocean.
Renewable Energy Institute has compiled an information brief in Japanese which summarizes some of the findings of the two research reports mentioned above, and it is hoped that it will be widely used in the forthcoming discussions on offshore wind in Japan.
