As Japan looks to scale up renewable energy, a major redesign of the country's electricity infrastructure is essential. Offshore wind in particular depends on a complete set of transmission lines—access lines, internal lines, and inter-regional connections—all requiring significant investment. This seminar looked at how grid development and smart market design can support large-scale renewable integration, with insights from both Japan and Northern Europe.
