in Japanese

Renewable Energy Institute has been publishing the “Renewable Electricity Procurement Guidebook” for corporate energy users in Japan since 2018 and revises it annually with the latest information as renewable electricity procurement options continue to change.

The 2025 edition explains the basics of renewable electricity and focuses on four types of procurement methods. “Self-generation” and “Corporate PPA” (on-site and off-site) are becoming popular as these methods contribute to climate change mitigation by adding new renewable electricity. “Renewable Energy Certificates” and “Green Products” are more convenient options procuring from the existing generation facilities with less additionality. The characteristics, examples and price trends of each option are presented. Key considerations and requirements for procuring renewable electricity are discussed in detail.

The English edition focuses on the main content of the guidebook “Renewable Electricity Procurement Methods” (Chapter 3 of the Japanese edition), providing a comprehensive and updated guide for global corporations operating business in Japan.
