The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz has highlighted Japan’s vulnerability, with more than 80% of its energy supply dependent on imported fossil fuels. At the end of August, the Japanese government adopted POWERR GX; Policy Package for Wide Energy and Resources Resilience through GX, aiming both to improve the stability of fossil fuel procurement and to accelerate and reinforce its Green Transformation (GX) initiatives.
At the same time, this summer brought severe heatwaves and torrential rainfall around the world and in Japan, underscoring the deepening climate crisis. The debris flows that struck the Himalayas at the end of August are believed to have been triggered by glacier collapse associated with global warming.
Faced with the twin crises of energy and climate, is Japan making the right choices in its energy policy? Experts from Europe and Japan will come together for an in-depth discussion on the path Japan should take.
We hope you will join us.
