Jeremy Leggett is founder and chairman of Solarcentury (1997-present), a designer, manufacturer and installer of solar building products and an installer of large solar farms, and founder and Chairman of SolarAid (2006 – present), an African solar-lighting social enterprise set up with some of Solarcentury’s profits, whose social venture brand SunnyMoney is Africa’s top-selling retailer of solar lanterns. He is also Chairman of CarbonTracker, a financial think-tank warning of a systemic carbon-asset-bubble threat to capital markets. Described by the Observer as “Britain’s most respected green energy boss,” he has been an Entrepreneur of the Year at the New Energy Awards, a CNN Principal Voice, a winner of the US Climate Institute’s Award for Advancing Understanding, and was the first Hillary Laureate for International Leadership on Climate Change. He is convenor of the UK Industry Taskforce on Peak Oil and Energy Security, a pan-industry group warning of a systemic oil-depletion risk to economies, and is a consultant on systemic risk to major corporations. Dr. Leggett is author of The Carbon War (2000), an eye-witness account of the climate negotiations in the 1990s; Half Gone (2005), an account of the interaction between peak oil and climate change; and The Solar Century (2009), a vision of solar in the cleantech revolution. He writes and blogs on occasion for the Guardian and the Financial Times. He lectures on short courses in business and society at the universities of Cambridge and St Gallen, and is an Associate Fellow at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute.
