Note: ‘Generation costs of residential solar PV’ refer to the cost of generating 1 kWh of electricity, based on the assumption that the system will be used for 20 years, and include the costs of equipment, maintenance, interest rate (discount rate), and others. In determining the cost of equipment, reference was made to ‘The number of residential solar PV systems that were granted subsidies’ presented by Japan Photovoltaic Expansion Center under Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association. Electricity charge per unit was calculated by dividing the revenue from electricity charges for the ten utilities by the amount of electricity sold.

Note 1) The prices of domestic wood chips are calculated based on the data from the statistics and information department of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, MAFF. The prices of imported chips are calculated by imported prices and amounts of the conifers from the USA and broadleaf trees from Australia. The data of rates come from the Japan Paper Association.
Note 2) “Dry-ton” refers to the amount of wood chips that are dehydrated and dried up until the weight doesn’t change any more.
Note 3) Prices shown in this graphs are mainly chip prices for papermaking and boards and they are presented as reference values for fuel.
