Environment has been positioned as a third pillar of Olympism, and the 2012 London Games have been highly evaluated as “the most sustainable Olympics ever.” Tokyo is now facing challenges to further develop a platform to promote the highest environmental standards toward 2020.
Tokyo’s candidature file has set ambitious targets which would excel London’s achievements for sustainability if successfully achieved. What are the key steps to reach those targets? At the conference, Mr. Sean McCarthy OBE, the former chair of Commission for a Sustainable London 2012, will present how the organizing body in London achieved to meet their sustainability commitments with stakeholders participation, and will discuss with the other guest speakers what are the lessons to be learnt from the experience in London for Tokyo 2020.
